The Case for Theocracy as over Democracy – I

According to Biblical Theocracy, the three major institutions that exists are the State, the Church, and the Family. The State is given to govern everything concerning law and order while the Church is given to care for and develop every other aspect of society. The responsibility of the Family lies in raising individuals according to the teachings of the Bible so as to strengthen the Church. The Church similarly is given to groom individuals in the righteousness of God so as to be elected into the State. So it turns out in a theocracy that if the State succeeds in its Godly duty, it reflects that the Church has performed its rightful duty unto Christ, which in turn is telling of the family’s spiritual vigour.

Prov 29:2
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

You know Jesus has said that man can serve only one of two masters i.e. money or God (Lk6:13). So it is in a Theocratic Regime that education in schools is as much a ministry as medication is in hospitals because outside a Theocratic Regime, education and medicine turns out to be more as a good lucrative avenue as over serving people from Godly duty. When education is taught with the fear of the Lord being the backbone, the children learn what it is to have a good moral disposition but where does that happen now, which means today even if you go into the best of schools here in Mumbai, you will get the feeling that we’re raising a bunch of goons and not kids for a better tomorrow.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Besides one of the reason’s hospice and education, should be governed by the Church is because the people ought to see that their wisdom is from God and so too healthcare is a godly provision. These shouldn’t just be seen as casually as some government aid/grant.

Another area I do not agree with in democracy is the institution of marriage because the State/Government has absolutely no right to conduct such a thing as a civil/court marriage because as much as it is God, who has instituted the State and Church, so too He has also instituted the Family. The Bible defines God as being Love (1Jn4:16) and the couple are called to vow and love each other in sickness and in health, such is their Godly duty in love as over being merely emotionally led which is unpredictable. If it is the State as over the Church that declares a couple married, then it also becomes the States responsibility to counsel a marriage in trouble, which is not a role that befits the State. Besides this, moral atrocities like gay marriage and abortion only exists today because of the involvement of State in the critical area of the Family in ways where it has no business.

I understand Christians are a minority in India and for us to see a Biblical Theocracy happen here is far from feasible but if you were to look at events happening here where our Prime Minister says he is our Pradhan Sevak (first servant leader) and every other Minister is a Sevak (servant leader), we notice that it is God at work. For Rom8:28 says that God works all things for the good of those who love Him, whom He has called according to His purpose, while Col1:20 says He is reconciling all things in Christ and Mat20:25 teaches us that we aren’t to be like those who merely exercise their authority without being of any assistance and a yearning for servant leadership is precisely what we see in our Prime Minister… thanks be God.

Mat 22
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [o]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

The UK may still claim to be a Theocracy because it is a monarchy but that is far from the truth because if it were truly a Theocracy today, it wouldn’t licence abortions and gay marriage. However during the 1500-1600 when it was truly a Theocracy, the nation prospered in trade from all across the globe but when Arminianism creeped in through John Wesley and the reformed faith split and the charismatic heresy was introduced into the Church, which all happened through the 1700s & 1800’s, the UK lost sight of Godly rule and as a result there was an uprising in her colonies. The American Revolutionary War began in 1775 and ended successfully 1783 with an Independent United States of America.

East India Company 1612–1757
Company rule in India 1757–1858
British Raj 1858–1947

In the case of India, the first Indian Rebellion against the British occurred in 1857-1857 from a Sepoy Mutiny. Though this period also saw much social reform like the abolition of Sati in 1829 and also the allowing widows to remarry in 1856, the UK got its dose of anarchy all over the world because in yielding to heresy, the nation had succumbed to lawlessness itself.

Luke 6
38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

If you care to notice, the Saudi flag pictures the Islamic Statement of Faith resting on a sword to mark Islam’s means of religious progress. Also Islam require the non-Muslim to pay Jizya, which is the so called humiliating tax a person pays for not being a Muslim. However though the UK went through her obstinate backsliding from God, she never governed nations to the lawless/sinful extent of subjecting people to the edge of the sword to promote Christendom. The reason I feel strongly to show you this contrast is because Sharia Law is no Theocracy but only an abuse of personal liberty by a bunch of power-craving liars, who have established their sin as their religion. The Biblical code of righteousness on the other hand is a moral code, where the civil law merely serves to hedge the moral law.

The truth about democracy is that according to statistics, a meagre 7%-10% are those who actually determine what the people want and if truly all the people got what they wanted, chaos would erupt in every street with stores being looted, people being murdered unjustly and women being raped only because they were not dressed modestly enough in the public eye. Democracy therefore is merely sugar coated Ochlocracy (mob rule). Ever wondered why the masses love movies like Resident Evil and I am Legend?

According to International Suicide Statistics, over one million people die by suicide worldwide each year with the global suicide rate positioned at 16 per every 100,000, which on an average says, one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds somewhere in the world. This combined with Euthanasia, where people hire supporters in thousands to voice out their right-to-die is the nastier side of democracy.

However the main opposition to Theocracy remains the people’s love for sin. I remember when pornography was banned in India a few months ago there was a huge uproar among the people. Thankfully India though being the largest democracy in the world is also a republic and so the people’s right-to-porn was overruled.

Biblical Law is a moral code, which means it is cross-cultural, not requiring people to grow their hair/beards/moustaches or even dress in a particular way, as long as that is modest. The truth remains that if we truly believe that God exists then we ought to admit that God knows better and it is from this perspective that Theocracy is far superior compared to Democracy.

The topic of predestination is one, which is heatedly debated on, in Christian circles. Predestination holds to the belief that God “CHOSE” a people before the beginning of time whom He would save unto eternal life only through Christ (1Peter 1:2). The people who normally oppose such a view have this excuse as their reason, which is that if it is God who is choosing people unto Salvation then it is unfair to those whom he has not chosen to be saved. Such a view not only makes God seem accountable to man but is actually an excuse for man to glorify his own being through what he thinks is his ability in autonomous decision making. As John Calvin perfectly puts it, the people who oppose predestination are no more than mortal enemies of God’s praise. The funny thing is, under the pretext that God is fair to all, predestination is opposed but when these same people are asked if they themselves are due praise due to their autonomous decision to believe, they remain silent but they probably and secretly seek praise because for most of them their best witness for the Gospel is their own testimony of how they came to believe, which portrays them in the spotlight and God in the background.

The thing is if God wants to send people to hell, he will send them (Heb 4:3). He Himself is goodness; He is certainly not obligated to act within the boundary of what man defines as good. He is glorified equally in all his attributes, weather that be: wrath or mercy. It must be understood, He does not save people because of themselves (Eph 2:8-9) but He saves people for His own Namesake (Psalms 79:9). God humbles himself before no man, where Jesus is concerned stating that He humbled himself to the point of death that humility was unto His Father (Gal 1:4), which He did so in obedience (Php 2:8).

There is certainly no pride man can take in His Salvation, the Bible refers to the saved, not as vessels of worthiness/merit but as vessels of His mercy (Romans 9:23). As Christians we too could have been vessels of His wrath like the rest of the unbelieving but the statement of fact is that, it is not because of we who accepted His mercy but because it was He who Sovereignly chose to show us mercy (Rom 9:15). You must understand that when you stand before an executioner and he declares mercy upon you, in such a scenario no sane man even in the remotest reaches of his imagination will feel the need to render a statement of acknowledgment/acceptance for that mercy he has received, when he is standing there on the brink of eternal death (Isaiah 48:9). That man will only be eternally thankful and will praise Him because of whom He received that mercy (2John1:3).

When the Bible says that Salvation is free (Romans 5:14-19), it is not meaning to say: as in ‘free for all’ but meaning to say that the person who has received it has contributed nothing even towards his own salvation. Predestination seen from a Biblical view is not mere “eternal security”, rightly worded predestination is actually: the perseverance of the Saints (Php 2:12-13). The reason clarity needs to be brought into this is because, “eternal security” is pitched in such a way that anyone who claims to accept the Gospel is saved regardless of how he leads his life in the future. However when you refer to the perseverance of the Saints: it speaks of eternal security: yes but along with that also the trails which God will take you through struggling all the way (Heb 12:6), for which He shall impute in you the Spirit of Perseverance (Psalms 51:12).

To conclude: Predestination, seen in its right light, does not mean that he who believes in it is surely saved but that if one believes in Christ and strives to lead that blameless life (Eph 1:4) in which the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13) shall guide him in for His Namesake, God had that person’s Salvation in mind right before the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4). The Bible states God foreknows the believing (Romans 8:29), where foreknows literally speaking is that God foreordained that person before all creation to become an object of His affection (1Co 8:3), which He would deliver because He does not destroy who He loves. And the only way a person may know he is loved by God is if that person loves Jesus Christ and strives to obey Him beyond all things (John 14:23).

Armour of God!

Though this world may seem to move from bad to worse, I know that God is as much as in control now as He ever was and as He will be forever. For as much as He is glorified in being a creator over creation, he is glorified is being a redeemer over His vessels of mercy and also glorified in His anger over His vessels of wrath. It is not for God or the Christian to worry as to what the world is coming to because God is Sovereign but it would be of much help to the Christian to wear the full armor that God has given him, to withstand days of peril.

Eph 6:13-17
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;
17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

The “belt of truth” in verse 14 is something that fastens the armor of God upon the believer. Let’s read Rom 1:18.

Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Just as if I were to say that my glass is only filled half way or that my glass is still half empty would both be true, hence from Romans 1:18 we can also say “God’s mercy has been made known from heaven touching godliness and righteousness of men, who by their righteousness stands firm in the truth.” We therefore see that the breastplate of righteousness that is held-fast to us by truth protects our bosom so that our hearts entertain nothing else (Proverbs 6:24-27) other than God (Deut 6:5 and Jer 31:33). This, my friend is the mark of a people and belong to God.

From Eph 6:14, we see that the believer is called to have readiness to preach the Gospel as Jesus says in Matthew 28:18-20 that All Power has been given unto Him and we are therefore commanded to go into the nations and bring in the good news of Jesus Christ, the Gospel of peace! That the people may adhere to the One God in the Father, Son and Spirit, as He promised to remain with His people till the end of age.

Romans 10:13-15
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

About the shield of faith in Eph 6:15 that extinguishes the fiery dart of Satan. We know God Himself promised to shield Abraham (Gen 15:1) and it was because Abraham believed that it was credited to him as righteousness (Gal 3:6). The Bible also tell us in 1John 5:5 that it is in believing in Jesus in which we have the shield of faith that quenches the fiery darts of the enemy (1Peter 5:8-9).

Also, you are not fully sheltered if your head is not protected. For in this battle that happens for the time that God has decreed, a blow to head can prove to be fatal and if God has called you to receive His helmet of salvation (Psalms 140:7) then it implicitly implies that He will give you His full armor, which is a privilege the world has not seen.

Habakkuk 3:13
You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked, laying him bare from thigh to neck. Selah.

Finally, you also need a device of attack and what we have been given is the sword of Spirit i.e. the Word of God – The Bible, which is a weapon given to us by His Spirit in His wisdom.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

I kept this for last; Brother/Sister now that you have seen the splendid Armor presented to you, here is its purpose:

Ephesians 6:11-12
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

If you think the opposition is big then this should console you: God controls the opposition! Do you know how some vaccines are made in the field of medicine? The actual virus is taken, made handicapped and injected into the body. The virus cannot really do much harm but what happens is that the body starts producing antibodies, which builds up the immune system against that disease and this is probably how God Sovereignly uses Satan and all his dominions to build God’s people.
