Sometime back I found an interesting piece of scripture in the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament. Check it out.
Isaiah 55:10-11
10 “My word is like the snow and the rain
that come down from the sky to water the earth.
They make the crops grow
and provide seed for sowing and food to eat.
11 So also will be the word that I speak —
it will not fail to do what I plan for it;
it will do everything I send it to do.
Verses 10 to 11 of Isaiah 55, reminds me of the Parable of the Sower.
Luke 8:4-8 & 11-15 (The parable of Sower)
4 People kept coming to Jesus from one town after another; and when a great crowd gathered, Jesus told this parable:
5 “Once there was a man who went out to sow corn. As he scattered the seed in the field, some of it fell along the path, where it was stepped on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some of it fell on rocky ground, and when the plants sprouted, they dried up because the soil had no moisture. 7 Some of the seed fell among thorn bushes, which grew up with the plants and choked them. 8 And some seeds fell in good soil; the plants grew and produced corn, a hundred grains each.”
…
11 “This is what the parable means: the seed is the word of God. 12 The seeds that fell along the path stand for those who hear; but the Devil comes and takes the message away from their hearts in order to keep them from believing and being saved. 13 The seeds that fell on rocky ground stand for those who hear the message and receive it gladly. But it does not sink deep into them; they believe only for a while but when the time of testing comes, they fall away. 14 The seeds that fell among thorn bushes stand for those who hear; but the worries and riches and pleasures of this life crowd in and choke them, and their fruit never ripens. 15 The seeds that fell in good soil stand for those who hear the message and retain it in a good and obedient heart, and they persist until they bear fruit.
You can see from verse 11 that the “Seed” in the Parable of the Sower is the “Word of God”. The Apostle Peter later explains that those who have received this Seed ( Word of God) are those who are spiritually born again, only these are the children, whose Father is God Himself.
1Peter 1:23
For through the living and eternal word of God you have been born again as the children of a parent who is immortal, not mortal.
Now incase you are asking, who or what is this Seed (also known as the Word of God) that the prophet Isaiah prophesized who would not fail God & do everything according to plan. Then I would like to tell you that this Seed (Word of God) is Jesus, He is the very Word of God, meaning He Himself is all the authority of God. When God during the creation of the world said let there be light (Gen 1:3), it was through His Word that the command for the existence of light was given. This Word was Jesus Himself, the very authority of God all together. Let us check what the Gospel of John has to say on this.
John 1:1-18
1 In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 From the very beginning the Word was with God. 3 Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. 4 The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to humanity. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.
…
10 The Word was in the world, and though God made the world through him, yet the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to his own country, but his own people did not receive him. 12 Some, however, did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God’s children. 13 They did not become God’s children by natural means, that is, by being born as the children of a human father; God himself was their Father.
14 The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father’s only Son.
…
17 God gave the Law through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is the same as God and is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
Here is some more proof that Jesus is Word of God Himself, in flesh and blood.
Rev 19:13 (Reference to Jesus)
13 The robe he wore was covered with blood. His name is “The Word of God”.
Remember it does not matter who feeds you or nourishes you with the “Seed”/”Word of God” (Jesus). What matters is that you hold on to the Word and it will take root in you to produce fruit that is pleasing to God (Father Son & Spirit).
1 Corinthians 3:5-9 (Apollos and Paul were early Christians who served the Church)
5 After all, who is Apollos? And who is Paul? We are simply God’s servants, by whom you were led to believe. Each one of us does the work which the Lord gave him to do: 6 I sowed the seed, Apollos watered the plant, but it was God who made the plant grow. 7 The one who sows and the one who waters really do not matter. It is God who matters, because he makes the plant grow. 8 There is no difference between the one who sows and the one who waters; God will reward each one according to the work each has done. 9 For we are partners working together for God, and you are God’s field.
1Corinthians 3:5-9 is with the reference to the Parable of the Sower.
